Brand: Burkert

Burkert 2/2 way solenoid valve (type 2873) with G 1/4 inch threads and a 24 V DC coil. Designed for proportional flow control. The circuit function of the solenoid valve is normally closed (voltage = open). The valve is direct operating, so no differential pressure required. Suitable for max media temperatures of 90 °C (194 °F) and a pressure range of -1 - 8 bar (-15 - 116 psi). Housing of stainless steel with PTFE sealing and a 2 mm orifice. The Kv-value is 0.1 m3/h (1.67 l/min at dp = 1 bar water). The valve is fat and oil free.

Note: DIN connector not included.

This is a Burkert direct operating 2/2 way solenoid valve with G 1/4 inch threads and a 24 V DC coil. Designed for proportional flow control through a PWM signal. The duty cycle of the signal determines the coil current, which directly correlates to the plunger position. Optionally, the valve can also be driven with DC voltage. The valve has a stainless steel housing with PTFE sealing and an orifice size of 2 mm. The circuit function of the solenoid valve is normally closed, which means the valve opens when voltage is applied. As it is direct operating, no pressure differential over the valve is needed to open the valve. Suitable for a pressure of -1 - 8 bar (-15 - 116 psi) and a maximum temperature of 90 °C (194 °F). The valve has a Kv-value of 0.1 m3/h, this translates to a flow rate of 2 l/min at a differential pressure of 1 bar (for water). In imperial units: Cv = 0, which means 0 GPM @ 1 psi pressure drop. For many applications it is enough to select a valve based on the thread size and orifice diameter. For more accurate sizing, use the Kv-value with our easy to use valve sizing calculator. The stainless steel housing is very durable, strong and resistant to a wide range of chemicals with the exception of chloride solutions. The PTFE (polytetrafluoroethene or teflon) sealing, is resistant to almost all media. Please note that the internal valve parts, such as the stainless steel plunger and springs, are also in contact with the medium and must be chemically compatible. Consult our chemical resistance chart to verify compatibility of housing and seals with the medium. The valve can be proportionally controlled by using a digital controller such as, for example, the Bürkert 8605 or 8611 types. The valve is fat and oil free, meaning it won't contaminate the media. Therefore, it's suitable for laboratory use as well as oxygen. The valve has an IP65 rating if properly connected.

Pros:

  • Oil and fat free, so the valve does not contaminate the medium
  • Good protection against the environment thanks to the IP65 rating
  • Silicone free, so the valve does not contaminate the medium
  • Solenoid valves open and close very fast compared to many other valve types
  • Compact valve design
  • Response time less than 20 ms
  • Control enabled with PWM signal

Cons:

  • Solenoid valves are very sensitive to dirt and can only be used with clean liquids and gases
  • The coil may get hot when energized. A well ventilated environment is recommended

Series:

The Bürkert 2873 is a direct-operated plunger solenoid valve and is primarily used for applications where flow rate control is necessary (proportional control). Depending on the model, the valve works from 0 up to 16 bar and has a 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch port size with BSPP or NPT thread or can be mounted on sub-base flange. The orifice sizes ranges from 0.8 to 6 mm. The flow can be controlled using a digital controller (for example the Bürkert 8605 or 8611 types). Please note that the correct sizing of the valve (Kv) is critical in flow control setups. For smaller flow rates, type 2871 provides a solution. For larger flow rates, please consider 2875. For advice on which valve to choose and if the 2873 valve is right for you, please read our article about proportional solenoid valves or contact our technical support.
