The 2-way brass ball valve is the most commonly used shut-off valve on the market. It has a simple operation with a rotary ball with a bore to control the flow. A 2-way valve has two ports; inlet and outlet; which is switched on and off by turning the handle manually 90° around its axis.

Brass housing

Brass is used as the housing material. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc and has great mechanical properties. Brass ball valves are known for their durability and leakage free sealing over the life span, even if they have not been used for a long period of time. These brass ball valves can be used with drinking water, gas, mineral oils, compressed air and many other non-aggressive media. But they are not suitable for use with salt water or distilled water due to the risk of dezincification. Dezincification reduces the mechanical strength of the brass by causing the zinc to be removed from the alloy resulting in a porous structure. However, brass ball valves are more resistant against contaminated media as compared to other types of housing material and provide reliable sealing even in case of dirty media.

They can withstand high pressure, high temperature and high flow rates. They are also economical due to their simple and robust design, low cost and low maintenance needs. Due to these advantages, brass ball valves are used in a wide range of residential and industrial applications. Some common application includes controlling domestic hot and cold water systems, steam applications, irrigation system, natural gas system, marine industries, fire protection application, chemical industries, etc.

Manual operation

These 2-way ball valves are manually operated. A quarter turn handle is used to open or close the valve. The valve is open when the handle is in line with the pipe. When the handle is perpendicular to the pipe, the valve is closed. This manual design is convenient to close the valve during emergency situations. The valves with an ISO-top (ISO 5211) are suitable for electrical or pneumatic actuation.

Connection ports

The standard 2-way brass ball valve have threaded connection ports. The port combination can include F/ F – Female/Female, M/ M – Male/ Male or M/ F – Male/Female. F/ F is the most common port combination. Various port sizes are available.

Brass ball valve approvals

Based on the application, these brass ball valves can have approvals for drinking water (WRAS or DVGW) or gas appliances (EN 331, ITS or DVGW). Approved brass ball valve assures safety requirement and provides reliable and safe application with the defined media. View their approvals if needed for your application.
