Description
This pneumatic cylinder is double acting, meaning it requires air pressure to extend and retract the rod. The cylinder adheres to ISO 6432 (also referred to as a mini cylinder or round cylinder), which is a globally accepted and widely used standard. The advantage is that it enables world-wide inter-changeability with other major brands such as Festo, SMC or Norgren. The bore size is 16 mm and it has a stroke length of 550 mm. This cylinder has an operating pressure of 1 to 10 bar (14.5 to 145.04 psi). The piston rod has a M6 threads at the end. The piston contains a magnetic element. This allows precise position feedback of the rod location by mounting (one or more) magnetic sensors, such as reed or hall sensors. The cylinder has two M5 ports for the air routing. The cylinder can be mounted rigid or flexible with a wide range of mounting options, such as rod swivel joint ends (ISO 8139) or rod fork ends. The cylinder head and foot are made from aluminum, the cylinder tube is made from 304 stainless steel and the piston rod is made from 303 stainless steel. The Airtec round ISO 21287 cylinders are compatible with the following product series: Asco G435, Aventics MNI, Aventics OCT, Festo DSNU, IMI Norgren RM, IMI Norgren RT, Norgren RM Norgren RT, Parker P1A, SMC C85, SMC CBM2, SMC CD85, SMC CDG1, SMC CDJ, SMC CDJ2, and the SMC CG1 series.
Pros:
- ISO 6432 is globally accepted and interchangeable with other major brands
- Double acting cylinders can apply pressure in two directions and offer more motion control than single acting cylinders
- The cylinder is self lubricating and requires little maintenance
Cons:
- Not suited for icy conditions
- Damping, but not adjustable
