To lock the equipment in place when the motion ceases, select a 5/3-way valve with a closed center. As they have a closed center, they trap air within the cylinder when they are stopped. In vertical cylinder applications, for instance, you need a valve to keep air pressure off when the equipment stops, in order to prevent the rod from failing.
