Stainless Steel Check Valves

A stainless steel check valve allows fluid to flow only in one direction. This prevents the flow of fluid in the back direction, which could cause contamination or damage to other components. Check valves work automatically and do not need to be operated. Most available types have a small spring to close the valve, the medium pressure in the forward direction opens the valve. Note that there is a minimum pressure required to open the valve (usually called cracking pressure). The housing of these valves is made out of stainless steel. Stainless steel has very good overall chemical resistance to almost any medium. The material is highly wear, temperature and pressure resistant. Temperatures and pressures of valves are usually limited by the seal material and by the force needed to open the valve at high pressures. Besides that the temperature resistance of the actuator can also be a limitation. However, it is not suitable for hydro chloric acids, chlorides, bromine and household bleach. Swimming pool water has a low concentration of chlorides and therefore usually stainless steel 316 is used.
