Air vane motors boast several advantages over electric motors; as they do not require electrical power, air motors can be used in volatile atmospheres. Air vane motors rotate at high speeds as compressed air, nitrogen, or natural gas enters the sealed motor chamber and exerts pressure against a motor's vanes.
